Roy Acuff is the undisputed "King Of Country Music." At one time, Roy was a top-notch athlete on the verge of signing with the New York Yankees. His dreams to become a star athlete were shattered when he suffered a severe case of sunstroke that left him recovering for two years. During that period, Roy's interest in music emerged.
He learned to play the fiddle, and he joined a traveling music show. Before long, Roy made his first recordings and became the main attraction on the Grand Ole Opry. Roy's many accomplishments include the formation of Acuff-Rose Publishing in 1942, his nomination to run for governor of Tennessee in 1948, and finally his induction into the Hall Of Fame in 1962. By then, Roy's record sales totaled over 30 million. On November 23, 1992 the "King Of Country Music" passed away at the age of 89.
