COWBOY COPAS from Muskogee, Oklahoma along with Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins & Randy Huges was killed in that fateful plane crash outside of Camden, Tennesse March 5, l963. Copas a long time member of the Grand Ole Opry, first landed on the popularity charts in l946 with the number 4 hit, Filipino Baby, followed by Signed Sealed and Delivered, # 2 in l948 that same year he scored with Tennesse Waltz that hit the number 3 position. His biggest hit ever was in l961 titled ALABAM which hit the number one spot country and number 15 pop. His final chart was the year he died in l963 titled GOODBYE KISSES. Not only was Copas top notch vocalist he was an excellent flat top guitar picker.
