After GENE AUTRY was discharged from the military during World War II, he resumed his recording & movie career with a movie and a recording of the same title BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN written by RAY WHITLEY whose version is included in this release. While WHITLEY’S career was in many ways illustrious, highlights were movies with AUTRY in the 30’s & 40’s, appearances on THE FRED ALLEN SHOW, KATE SMITH, EDDIE CANTOR & THE GRAND OLE OPRY. His last film was EDNA FERBERS’ “GIANT’ starring ROCK HUDSON, ELIZABETH TAYLOR & JAMES DEAN in which he portrayed DEAN’S manager. WHITLEY died on a fishing trip in Mexico in l979, he was 77
