The quality is somewhat sub-par and the applause frequently overrides the performances, but all in all this is PIERCE in his element and the backing musicians at their very best utilizing the BUD ISAACS pedal steel sound made popular by PIERCE himself. If you’re a fan of hard-core country, this is a great recording and WEBB PIERCE who died in l991 is actually singing better on these live performances than he did on his hit recordings in the fifties and on some of the tracks he does the introduction. Probably some of these live performances were taken from appearances on the ERNEST TUBB record shop and to the educated country music ear, RED SOVINE will be heard singing harmony on IN THE JAIL HOUSE NOW and ERNEST TUBB will be heard introducing PIERCE on WONDERING .
